added 7/3/2007
Just as the kitchen is the most important room
of a home, the kitchen sink is the most important
part of the kitchen. This is because it is the center of activity
of the kitchen, where practically all tasks in the kitchen
starts and ends with the sink. This is why the design of the
kitchen sink plays a large impact in the kitchen
remodeling. So choose the right kitchen sink
while keeping in mind the way you intend to use it and how
it will blend with your kitchen design.
The commercial and industrial look is the latest trend in
kitchen sink designs, which tend to make the process of food
preparation and cooking very easy. There are various designs
of kitchen sinks like single bowl kitchen sinks, double bowl
kitchen sinks and even triple bowl kitchen sinks. There are
even extra deep kitchen sinks available to hold large pots
and dishes if required.
The right kitchen sink can serve you a minimum of thirty
years. This is why you have to choose a kitchen sink wisely
when you design your own kitchen. Stainless steel kitchen
sinks are the most traditional sinks that have been around
since the past 100 years. The reason stainless steel sinks
are popular is because of its ability in fighting corrosion.
Choose your kitchen sink not only by its color and style,
but how you intend to use it. Decide on it according to its
durability and strength, its location and what your kitchen
priorities are. If you use a dishwasher, then a kitchen sink
with a single basin may be okay. However if you hand wash
your dishes, it is better to choose a two or three basin kitchen
sink.
Of the different types of kitchen sinks available, the most
popular is the stainless steel sinks in the latest
kitchen designs. They are popular because they are
easy to clean and blend with most kitchen
remodeling designs. However it is easily dented, and can
be rather noisy at times. Then there are nickel and copper
kitchen sinks that you can use. Though nickel is the harder
of the two metals, copper kitchen sinks are rather popular
as they don’t require any maintenance if the sink is
a pure copper sink.
Even porcelain enamel on cast iron are a popular choice in
kitchen sink designs because of its durability and wide range
in quality, colors and style. These sinks last for a minimum
of 25 to 30 years where its surface is made of melted ground
glass that is applied on the hot cast iron. These sinks can
be fit under mount, as tile-in installations and self rimming.
However as glass tends to break on this kitchen sink, it is
advisable to use a sink mat when washing glasses.
So you can see that there is a wide range of kitchen sink
designs for you to choose for your kitchen remodeling.
You have to basically, keep your overall kitchen design in
mind, and your priorities when choosing your sink. But keep
in mind you are going to be looking at it couple of times
every day so be sure to choose something that you like even
if it might be a little bit more expensive than the other
option which might be less pleasing.
