The Kitchen Sink And Flooring
added 7/3/2007
This article will deal with kitchen flooring,
and installation of the kitchen sink. The
sink as we know forms one of the basic and most important
working units of our kitchen, it constitutes one of the apexes
of the working triangle and therefore its position and placement
in the kitchen is of utmost importance. A sink is usually
subjected to a lot of pressure and continuous wear and tear.
It is rare that we work in the kitchen and we do not use the
sink. Hence along with the style quotient we have to also
delve deep into the durability and quality quotient of the
sink we buy.
If during remodeling you want to replace
your old sink and team it up with the new kitchen decor, then
it will be advisable to pick up a sink which is of a contrasting
color to that of the cabinets and the other
kitchen furniture. You can have more than
one sink in a multiple workstation kitchen, with a second
sink in the center of the kitchen where you can wash your
vegetables, fruits, meat and other stuff.
Depending on the shape of your kitchen chose the shape of
your sink. If you have an L or U shaped kitchen then its best
to go for a corner sinks. The corner sinks ensure that the
kitchen space is used efficiently. It also makes the sharp
turnings in the kitchen geometry less obvious to the human
eye.
Sinks are made out of a wide variety of material. You can
choose from acrylic sinks, granite sinks, copper sinks, stainless
steel sinks, which are but a few options. Acrylic
kitchen sinks are sleek and stylish. They are easy
to clean and maintain. There is also an amazing plethora of
beautiful colors and designs to choose from. Moreover acrylic
can withstand high temperatures, is non porous and is resistant
to scratches and water stains also. All these qualities of
the acrylic sink make it hugely popular.
The granite sinks on the other hand, though
beautiful to look at and fiercely durable, once constructed
makes its removal on another remodeling process
quite impossible. Further it’s very expensive. Yet the
granite sinks are hugely popular in designer and large kitchens,
as it gives a classy vintage look to it.
The stainless steel sinks are the once ordinarily
used, as they are cheap and last for years even after rough
and regular usage. According to your needs you can choose
from a sink which gives you the facility to wash, store and
drain at the same time. Depending on the number and size of
utensils you want to soak in the sink its better to choose
the bowl size and drainage area of the sink.
After choosing an appropriate sink, its time to concentrate
on the kitchen flooring. While remodeling
your kitchen, it is wise if you can think of a kitchen theme,
which is compatible to the old flooring you already have.
However if you want to give your kitchen floors
a all new look, then simply use matching carpets and easy
to wash and colorful floor mats. This will make your kitchen
look different and at the same time help to save the cost
of a new flooring. If you have wooden flooring, then make
it look lively and new by giving it an interesting border
of dark stone or concrete.
A stylish yet durable sink, along with an interesting floor
layout can change the entire ambience of you kitchen. So remember
this small but important aspect of kitchen remodeling
along with the other points mentioned earlier to own a kitchen
you can be proud of!
