Giving Color And Light To Your Kitchen
added 7/25/2007
Think of kitchen remodeling
and it is incomplete without adding a fresh coat of new color
to your walls and cabinets. It is the cheapest, yet the most
effective way to give your kitchen a new look. Remember that
the kitchen is one of the most dynamic centers of the house;
so don’t give it a monotonous look.
For example – if the cabinets
and cupboards of the kitchen
are off white or cream in color, then the wall should not
have a similar shade on it. Instead contrast the cabinets
and furniture colors with that of the wall. This will make
each aspect of the kitchen prominent and eye catching.
Highlight the kitchen walls with dark color tiles and rich
motifs. This will add a lot of mood and character to the kitchen.
Team it up with appropriate kitchen accessories like doorknobs,
trays, wonderful and exquisite china etc. Put on your creative
caps and experiment with wallpapers and color options. However
always remember that too much of dark colors or too much of
light colors, when used uniformly will give the kitchen a
dull look. Therefore use a mix of dark and light colors, which
will compliment each other and give your kitchen and amazing
look.
The light falling on the kitchen walls also dominates the
look of the kitchen and hence it is important to light up
your kitchen properly. Use of task light near the workstation
will enable you to cut vegetables and do other minute work
without straining your eyes. Create a serene and relaxing
atmosphere in your kitchen by using ambient lighting. Use
cabinet lighting to light up the crockery and glassware.
Last but not the least, now it is time to plan out your budget.
Ultimately it is your budget that decides what you buy and
what kind of a kitchen you build. Someone with the budget
of a contemporary kitchen, trying to fit a designer kitchen
in it, will end up with a under furnished and inadequate looking
place. There are a large number of kitchen furniture,
accessories and appliances available in the market. Survey
the market well and then accordingly plan out your expenses.
In some cases you have to make a compromise between quality
and style, however remember that certain kitchen accessories
require being durable and long lasting. Try not to compromise
on their quality. For the other products you can give style
and look more priority. The maximum cost involved in kitchen
remodeling goes in making the cabinetry followed by the labor
charge, the kitchen appliances, countertops, design, flooring
and then the lighting of the kitchen. If you have a small
budget at hand then instead of making a new cabinetry, color
the cabinet doors of the existing ones and give it a new look.
In order to buy new kitchen appliances, wait for the festive
season to avail of discount offers given by the electronic
shops. Hope this entire series on kitchen remodeling will
help you build a perfect kitchen finally!
